The history of Albany is the history of America. As Albany and the Hudson River Valley of New York State celebrate its Quadricentennial Anniversary, 2009 is the perfect time for new and frequent visitors to explore our many attractions, museums, and historic sites and to take part in a live performance at one of the region’s world-class performance venues.
Many historic homes and sites are open to visitors interested in the area’s heritage and culture. Among them are Crailo State Historic Site and Pruyn House, dedicated to the history of the area’s Dutch settlers; Mabee Farm, established as an early fur trading post along the Mohawk River; Olana, home of Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church, with magnificent sweeping views of the Catskills and Hudson River; Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, home of Revolutionary War General Philip Schuyler; Historic Cherry Hill, filled with original family collections and Ten Broeck Mansion, home of the Albany County Historical Association.
